Qualifications

The Australian aircraft maintenance licencing system has changed to require new licence holders to hold formal training qualifications gained through nationally Recognised Training Organisations (RTOs) that are also CASA approved and recognised CASR Part 147 organisations (RO’s)

The previous CASA assessed system is operating in a transition phase until 2015.

The Australian Qualifications Training Framework (AQTF) training package MEA011 contains the qualifications required to become a Licence Aircraft Maintenance Engineer under the CASR Part 66 licencing system. Detailed information on CASA’s requirements are contained on the CASA website.

The required qualifications to hold a B1 mechanical licence or a B2 avionics licence are as follows:

  • MEA50211 – Diploma of Aeroskills (Mechanical)
  • MEA50111 – Diploma of Aeroskills (Avionic)

The details of the training package can be found on the government training website by following this link http://training.gov.au/Training/Details/MEA11

  • CASA BASIC Examinations
  • AME Licencing following the previous CAR 31 pathway will be available until mid 2015.
