| Notices - Notices 2010 |
Forstaff at a meeting with the ALAEA 27 July 2010, rejected a suggestion by the Association that employees should receive a payment of $51.60 per week for operating Cranes, Forklifts and acting as a Dog-man. This rejection by the Company confirms that Forstaff & Qantas want people to perform these tasks for free.
Again and further to the notices 13 July 2010 & 26 July 2010, the ALAEA strongly advises members’/employees in general NOT to participate in any training related to this type of equipment/activity until further notice. Participating in training may alter your employment contract so you are required to operate Cranes, Forklifts and act as a Dog-man for free.
Members’ currently operating cranes etc will need to continue to remain doing so, therefore “de-bunking” any allegations of un-protected industrial action.
Qantas savings are outlined in the table below:
|
Qantas savings |
Employee payments |
|
Per week $16, 153.84 |
Per week $0.00 |
|
Per month $70, 000 |
Per month $0.00 |
|
Per year $840, 000 |
Per year $0.00 |
The opinion of the ALAEA is that this amounts to corporate greed.
Do you think this is fair? Do you want an allowance of $51.60 per week or do this for free? Do you want to undermine yourself and your workmates?
The Company strategy is to call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from employees without any allowances so you will have to do this for free. The ALAEA calls for unity amongst the workforce by not undermining yourself & your workmates, by signing up for training of this nature.
If the Company is successful in obtaining enough EOIs – and employees go ahead with the Crane & Dog-man training, then operate Cranes, Forklifts and act as a Dog-man for free – then an allowance of $51.60 per week will not be gained. Not now – not ever!
The ALAEA strategy is a legal strategy, as there is nothing in the current Forstaff EBA 5, that compels employees to offer an Expressions of Interest related to this type of training or activity.
Other licences receive a payment why not Crane, Forklift & Dog-man?
The ball is in the employees’ court – stick together and reject the Company EOI with a chance of securing a payment of $51.60 per week – or undermine yourself & your workmates by doing it for free.
