All Members-Notice 048 – Sunstate Fighting Fund Update
| Notices - Notices 2010 |
Collections are now underway in most departments at many airlines and MROs where ALAEA members are employed for our brothers at Sunstate. A revised list of your local Rep is attached to the notice.
Just to rehash, Qantaslink are in the process of deducting wages of up to 28 hours pay from each of the Sunstate LAMEs for actions such as recording defects on aircraft, allegedly taking longer than planned to carry out scheduled inspections and subsequent defect rectification, allegedly taking 10 minutes from start time and appearance at the first aircraft and allegedly not calling the manager when potential aircraft delays were probable. The implications of this stance taken by airline managers if allowed to go unchecked could be ever damaging for our entire industry.
Earlier this week members from Qantas Melbourne Heavy Maintenance dedicated their salaries from their 4 hour overtime shifts to the cause and collected a total of $6000 in the process. Pilot and other contributions from Pprune threads have hit $2500 including one donation of $500. Other departments are slowly collecting funds and I ask that all members assist in some way to ensure the 24 blokes from Sunstate can enjoy their Christmas with their families.
The ACTU Executive has been fully briefed on the situation (particularly related to the six LAMEs who have been stood down for over a month after snagging faulty cockpit doors) and the attached motion of support was passed unanimously.
