At the last Federal Executive meeting a long and robust discussion was held over the activities of the Association and the associated costs. A decision was made that in order to keep providing the existing levels of service to the membership, to allow for future improvements to that service and to allow for inflation that a membership fee increase was required. It was determined that a membership fee increase between $1.50 and $2.50 per week would be applied to the current rates  from 1 January 2011 and set for the 4 year term of our executive.

Correspondingly the benefit payable to the families of a financial member if they pass away will be increased from $3000 to $5000.

Your membership fee provides funds available to employ Industrial and Membership staff to advise reps and members on day to day employment matters, lobby politicians and consult government departments for better Industrial, OH&S and Airworthiness Laws, and keeps us in touch with overseas developments in our industry. It also provides the best legal representation for you if something goes wrong on the aircraft you work on. Your fees also provide the much needed infrastructure to support these activities.

The ALAEA remains extremely proactive when it comes to attaining the best outcomes possible for our members and we are committed to providing the best service possible.

As I have said in the past I suspect that many members will have a quick look at the new membership rates and consider that their money is well spent.  Some will probably ask whether it is worth the expense and I am sure we will receive a couple of letters of objection.

I hope members will continue to agree that ongoing membership comes as second nature to persons employed in the Australian Aviation Industry.
