On 1 December 2010, at a combined union meeting at Avalon, the unions collated nearly 300 survey returns, resulting in the following being the top 3 issues;

  1. Job security -   long term prosperity for Avalon maintenance base, additional aircraft types and/or contracts 
  2. Same wage increase/parity per year as Qantas EAs-expiry date 30 June 2014
  3. Improved redundancy / retrenchment package

To place a proper perspective in relation to point 2, significant comments were made in the survey that members want a wage claim, in excess of parity to Qantas.   Members indicated they want more than just a 3% wage increase.

Other comments from survey returns included comments relating to paid union meetings, people wanting to be Qantas employees, better quota control system, staff travel, improved canteen facilities, painting allowance, aircraft wash allowance, full grade points for utility workers, improved grading system and improvements to 7 x 2 shift arrangements.

All of the above as well as the other 9 points on the survey, will be considered in formulating an EA claim however, this is not a conclusive list, as other issues may need to be added to the claim which you will vote on next year.
