All ALAEA Members - Notice 033/2011 - AMT Competition 2012
| Notices - Notices 2011 |
Expressions of interest are being sought from the entire ALAEA membership for participants to represent the ALAEA in the 2012 AMT Society Maintenance Skills Competition (MSC) to be held 7-9 March 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Five positions are available on the team – consisting of 4 team members, 2 Mechanical and 2 Avionic engineers, and a Captain/Coach. They will also be accompanied by an ALAEA Liaison Officer.
The goal of the competition is well described in the following excerpt from the AMT Society website.
“The AMTSociety Maintenance Skills Competition gives teams of licensed AMTs, AMEs, students enrolled in FAA, EASA, CASA or equivalently authorized schools as well as personnel of any country's Armed Forces involved in the aircraft maintenance field the opportunity to test their combined abilities against those of their peers. This competition will help enable the constant upgrading of the standards by which today's skilled AMT/AMEs hold themselves to. The second purpose is to showcase the knowledge, skill and integrity that each and every AMT/AME, both current and future, possesses. Showcasing these cornerstones of the AMT/AME craft and profession will help raise awareness of the training and skill needed for today's AMT/AME to carry the great responsibility of providing safe, airworthy aircraft”.
The ALAEA competed for the first time in 2010 and whilst not taking out any prizes in the various categories our participation, enthusiasm and effort took the whole competition by surprise leaving a positive impression of the attitude, the quality of the skills and the work ethic of Australian Engineers.
Our second excursion to the AMT MSC in 2011 gained the tremendous result of second place in the commercial division which as it turned out was to be a second overall placing. This was an absolute credit to the individuals involved and no doubt to all our dedication to the pursuit of aircraft maintenance excellence in this country, something that was recognised by the chairman of the AMT MSC Ken MacTiernan with the following words
" I am very honoured to have the ALAEA not only compete in the MSC but to know a union exists that so strongly believes in their membership's ability to perform their duties that they fly a team of 5 skilled AMEs halfway around the world to go head to head with their peers! TWO YEARS IN A ROW NO LESS! Airlines that have the good grace of employing these skilled craftsmen should be ashamed of not recognizing their own by fielding their own respective teams of AMEs! Don't worry, the ALAEA is here to promote and protect Australian AMEs!!! Keep up the good work "
