Notice 052/2011- QANTAS TECH SALARIED STAFF ALAEA MEMBERS RE: LETTERS OF APPOINTMENT (LOA)-AIRCRAFT AIRWORTHINESS (AA) DEPTS’ RESTRUCURE
| Notices - Notices 2011 |
The Association has recently been made aware that the Company is requiring members who have either remained in their current Tech Salaried Staff EBA classification or successfully applied for other positions as a result of the Aircraft Airworthiness Departments’ re-organisation and restructuring, to sign a new LOA. Whilst Qantas has consulted on the restructure there has been no consultation regarding the issuing of the LOAs or their content.
In the current situation we cannot see any reason why a person who is retaining their current EBA classification (e.g. Senior Tech Officer) should have to sign anything at all, as their terms and conditions of employment should not be changed and they are not being appointed or promoted to a new position. There is a requirement under the EBA in clause 20.4 which addresses appointment or promotion to a new position for Qantas to provide a ‘letter of confirmation’ however the ALAEA disputes the current content of the LOAs issued by Qantas and whether in fact clause 20.4 applies to some members in their particular circumstances.
Members are advised to continue working as normal and not sign the LOA until such times as the dispute is resolved.
